Privacy Policy

AutoKnow ("we", "us") provides an evidence-cited pre-purchase screen for enthusiast used-car listings, delivered through the AutoKnow web app and the AutoKnow browser extension. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how we handle it. If you have questions, email privacy@theautoknow.com.

1. What we collect

Account data. Your email address, used for passwordless (magic-link) sign-in, and the credits / entitlements associated with your account.
Listing data you analyse. When you run a check, the extension reads the listing page already open in your browser (title, specs, seller description, and photo URLs) and sends it to us to generate your report. We process the photos to produce the report; we do not re-host listing photographs as a gallery.
Payment data. Purchases are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number — Stripe handles it. We retain a record of which products you bought and the resulting credits.
Technical data. A session cookie to keep you signed in, plus standard request metadata (IP address, timestamps) used for security and rate-limiting.

2. How we use it

To authenticate you and maintain your account, credits, and report history.
To generate, store, and display the reports you request.
To process payments and prevent fraud and abuse.
To send transactional email (sign-in links, purchase receipts). We do not sell your data or send marketing email without your consent.

3. Service providers we share data with

We share the minimum necessary data with the providers that run the service:

Anthropic — the listing text and selected photos are sent to Anthropic's Claude API to produce the report.
Stripe — payment processing.
Cloudflare — hosting, storage, and database for the app and reports.
Resend (or an equivalent email provider) — delivery of transactional email.

These providers process data under their own privacy terms and only on our instructions.

4. The browser extension

The extension activates only on supported car-listing sites and only when you click Analyse. It reads the content of the page you are already viewing, in your own logged-in browser, to capture the listing. It does not run in the background, track your browsing, or collect data from other sites.

5. Data retention

We keep your account data while your account is active. Generated reports are cached so they can be re-shown to you (and reused across users for the same listing, which keeps costs and repeat analysis down). You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time.

6. Your rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by emailing privacy@theautoknow.com. We will respond within a reasonable period and as required by applicable law.

7. Cookies

We use a single essential session cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.

8. Children

AutoKnow is not directed to children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

9. Changes

We may update this policy; we will revise the "last updated" date above and, for material changes, notify you by email or in the app.
